This is a superb example of the Wrenn W2239 "Eddystone" 4-6-2 Rebuilt West Country Class Locomotive in BR Green, running number 34028. As with all Period 3 Wrenn Locomotives it has "metal rimmed" bogie/tender wheels for smooth running and minimal wear. The nameplates are centralised Period 3 issue,( as opposed to spaced out lettering) and the tender has the late BR totem.
Wrenn, Basildon production records I believe indicate over 1000 were produced from Late period 3 (circa 1979/80) however as a collector of many years I believe the figure to be far less based on my experience.. Also I do not believe a breakdown of the nameplate variants exist, and this example is not “play worn” like many of its counterparts from the P3/4 era. Has seen minimal layout use in my opinion - hence my condition rating.
The Locomotive/tender comes in its original box, and includes packing rings, tissue, Hornby Dublo coupling conversion kit and blue Instruction Manual. The bottom of the inner box has a "Packer No 6" stamp in red ink and the normal sellotape residue marks indicating late Wrenn, Period 3 Basildon issue. (Circa 1979/80).
Overall Condition of the Locomotive/Tender/box is "near mint " for their age.
